Careers

Lainey: "Daddy, are you going to be able to come to career day at my school on Friday?"

Will: "I dont know, Lainey, I need to check my schedule."

Abbey: "Mommy, you could go to Lainey's career day if Daddy cant."

Emiley: "Mommy doesnt have a career."

Abbey: "Yes she does. She is a substitute teacher."

Emiley: "That doesnt count."

Lainey: "Mommy is a maid and that counts as a career."

Man, I am glad I have a master's degree to be a maid... but I wouldnt trade being a mommy for anything!

Tuesday's Success:

Yes, you read that correctly...10 MILES!

I am on my way to the half marathon in two and a half weeks :)

Monday Success...

I love feeling success especially on a cold, rainy, Monday.
This is my first day to be home alone since sometime in September. I am really enjoying myself. So far today I have-
*worked out (Yep, still went to the gym at 4:30 even though I didnt have to go to work. Crazy, I know but it helped me start my day!)
*had coffee and a warm bath
*got the girls to school with peace and ease!
*cleaned the bathrooms
*made all the beds
*finished the laundry
*feed the ALL the animals
*vacuumed the carpet
*checked blogs :)
*check email
*LOVING being at home today!!

Now if we can make gymnastics with Emiley, rush back to town for Abbey's basketball game, make a quick dinner, get baths, and watch the Bachelor... it will be a true Monday Success!

Here are my cuties and their new puppy. Just for your viewing pleasure.
Happy Monday...

Friday Favorites...

My Friday Favorites this week are my gorgeous Tuscan Canisters from Southern Living At Home. Aren't they fabulous? But, when my husband sent me these beautiful flowers today I had to share them as well!
Today was my last day as a full-time sub. We are all celebrating in the fight and success that Mrs. C has had over cancer. I am celebrating just being a mommy again. I will sub LOTS in the near future but want to cherish a few days at home to get reorganized.
On a completely other note...
Guess what was found in my room today??
Have you guessed yet??
Take a wild guess??
Remember what went missing a few months ago??
A SNAKE SKIN! Can you believe it! Do you remember the story of the missing snake from the science teacher's (my neighbor at the school) room? Yep, today a student came and showed me what he had found in my room. OH MY! I wish I had a picture of the skin and Mrs. D and the little boy wish they had a picture of my face when he showed the snake skin to me.
What a great ending to a successful 18 weeks in content mastery!
Happy Weekend...

What I Learned as a Cheerleader...

Yes, I admit it, I was a high school cheerleader. And yes, I admit it, I LOVED it! Today I have found myself pondering all the things I loved and now cherish about being a high school cheerleader. As I was in "deep thought" I realized that a lot of the things I learned from cheer leading are good life lessons.

*I learned it is hard getting along with teenage girls especially when you must pick out and agree upon CLOTHES such as camp attire, shoes, socks, uniforms, and a megaphone design.
*I learned how to be a good role model for young girls because of an amazing, patient cheer leading sponsor.
*I learned that jump circle will make you very sore... especially the first day of summer workouts.
*I learned that cheer camp can make you even more sore than you thought was humanly possible.
*I learned to smile and go on with the show.
*I learned that tearing your ACL (ligament in the knee) in front of the whole school during a pep rally is very embarrassing (and painful) ...especially when the pep rally has to be stopped to carry you off the gym floor.
*I learned that it is even more embarrassing to be a homecoming queen nominee with a huge knee brace while trying to gracefully wear a strapless formal.
*I learned you can put your whole heart participating at the NCA National Finals and practice hours upon hours and still make mistakes in the REAL performance.
*I learned that I have amazing parents who support me in everything even cheering at the National Cheer leading Finals on Christmas.
*I learned how to trust all the girls on my squad.
*I learned we must work together and communicate.
*I learned a lot about football and love the sport even to this very day.
*I learned how to cry gracefully, how to win and how to lose.
*I learned sportsmanship.
*I learned how to love my school and my school's team with all my heart.
*I learned that hard work pays off.
*I learned dedication is hard but so worth every ounce of sweat.
*I learned that my body was not really tired after a basketball game, but it was really tired after playing a basketball game and cheering for the game after that.
*I learned I can do anything I set my mind to.
*I learned that I truly enjoyed being a girl.

But what I really realized about myself today was that cheer leading taught me how to make awesome free hand signs.

The last few weeks I have made a few bulletin boards at the school. Many have commented on how "good" I am at just writing my letters without sketching them out first.

Today I was commissioned to make a "Welcome Home" sign for a veteran returning home from Iraq and for Mrs. C who will be returning to school on Monday. I was happy to do it! Thank goodness for cheer leading, bubble letters, paint and sponge brushes!

Happy Hump Day!

It's A New Season...

It's a new season around here... basketball season! Abbey has only given basketball a shot once in her life. She played a few years ago and wasnt the BEST at it so she hadnt wanted to play again. She had said she wasnt going to play again EVER. This disturbed me a bit because it is one of the few sports offered to girls in Jr. High and High School. I had pulled all my forces together this year to try and help me convince Abbey to give basketball another shot. Well, after she had been begged and bribed, her PE teacher (who is also the head girls' basketball coach in the high school) talked her into trying it. Well, yesterday was Abbey Grace's first game and SHE LOVED IT! Her team won 30-2 and Abbey played great. After the game Abbey said, "I love this game. I want to play again next year but I hope my team color is not burnt orange." She is having a hard time wearing the orange and being called the "longhorns" since she likes the Aggies. Anyway, so far so good with the new season of basketball. She has another game tomorrow night... after we run back to H from gymnastics. It is also the new season for puppies around our house. This is a picture of Miss Em and the sweet puppy she found yesterday while out running on the dirt road. We think it is a Jack Russell terrier. The girls have named him JJ (Jerry Jeff) and adore him. He has stuck around for two days now. They will all be crushed if he does in fact have a "home" besides ours. We are going to keep our ears and eyes opened for someone who has lost a puppy like this one, just in case. Until then we will enjoy every minute of him. He is the size of our kitties and is so CUTE and lovable.
The girls have played outside with him all weekend. We are so thankful for the beautiful weather this weekend.
I have one more week of full time subbing and then I will be back to being a full time mommy (and maybe a more committed blogger). I am so thankful for this past four months. I have truly loved all the kids I have worked with. I am so thankful that Mrs. C has come through chemo GREAT! I am looking forward to being at home more and the ability to work when I want as a sub. I am not looking forward to going from room to room in the school. I like knowing what is going on every day. I guess I am a control freak... like that. Maybe since it is a new season, I can work on giving up some of worry and control!
Happy Sunday :)

I am a Hamster...

I have always been a hamster that loves cookies.

I have also been a hamster who doesnt mind eating my vegetables.

Recently I became a hamster who enjoyed lifting weights. But it wasnt until this weekend that I realized I was a hamster who didnt mind running on a spinning wheel.
The last time I trained for a half marathon I did all my running workouts outside because the thought of running on a treadmill made me sick. It probably made me sick because I could invision myself stumbling on the moving treadmill and falling face first in front of everyone else at the gym. Then I would have to gracefully pick myself up, turn off the treadmill, and head as fast as I could to my car. Well, this last Sunday I realized that running on the treadmill isnt that bad! I went to the gym because it was 29 degrees outside that morning... well, really I went early so that no one else would be there to witness me falling! I went and I did it. I ran seven miles Sunday morning. I even went back on Monday morning and did three more miles and there were people there to witness it. I must admit I do hold on with one hand at all times and I do feel like a hamster!

Friday Favorites...

I did have good intentions. I was going to start a "series" of post titled Friday Favorites. I was going to post one of my favorite things every Friday. Since I didnt get it done this past Friday, I will start it on Sunday. Makes perfect sense to me... I am living a few days behind these days :)

This is the Volvo I received in my stocking. This is the Volvo I received in my driveway. LOVE IT! Happy Weekend!

It's a Success...

This day is a success...

Emiley read her homework this evening with Daddy and had no mistakes.

Abbey had a wonderful basketball practice. She is playing the wing position and has gained so much self-confidence.

Lainey was given the part of Toad in the first grade play "Frog and Toad." She is ecstatic!

I completed Day Four of the Love Dare. (Psalm 149)

Will came home from work ready to settle in with the family for a night of football.

We had dinner as a family. (I must admit I think this is the first time EVER we have had hot pockets-Lainey and Em's choice, chicken pot pie-Abbey's choice, and a sauerkraut sandwich-for me and Will with a side salad, of course, for supper. Yes, it was a "slacker" supper night.)

Everyone has had a bath, smells good, is ready for bed, settled in for some good football, and tomorrow is Friday :)

It's That Time of the Year...

Yep, its that time of the year... yet again. Time to reflect and make those resolutions. I am not really a HUGE resolutions fan, but there are things that I ponder upon and strive for as the new year begins. So it's that time of year again...

Its that time of year when my kids and I will get sick. I rang in the New Year with the stomach virus. Abbey had it yesterday. I am just waiting for Lainey or Emiley to wake up with it sometime this week. Lainey and I are suffering from allergies like crazy. I think Will is even learning what it feels like to be an allergy sufferer. We are all sniffling and rubbing our eyes DAILY!

Its that time of year when I feel the OVERWHELMING urge to clean everything out. I am so thankful that Will and the girl helped me clean out numerous closets and drawers over the weekend after we took down the Christmas decorations. I am sure Will and the girls would admit that they just helped me because they didnt want to see another emotional breakdown on my part. :)

Its that time of year when my favorite shows start up again. Did anyone catch the Bachelor and the Biggest Loser? I am a HUGE fan!!

WILL DONT READ THIS PART!
Its that time of year when I want to reconnect with the one's I love the most. That is why I am committed to THIS for the next six weeks. I love my hubby so much and want to strive to love him more and show him he means the world to me! So I joined this bandwagon with Anne and other. Will and I saw the movie Fireproof (yes, I love Kirk Cameron!) which is based on THIS. I have been looking forward to seeing my daily challenge. This morning it was to give him something that let him know I was thinking of him today. I gave him some "HOT BOD"... yes, the corny, cheap cologne with a cute little note attached to it. The verse for today was Romans 12:10, " Be kindly affectionate to one another..." It's kinda fun...

Speaking of six week commitments, Its that time of year when I need to set some workout goals. So after much coaxing from my good buddy, Gina, I am signed up to run another half marathon in only six weeks. Not much training has gone on thus far, but I am committed to run/walk it and finish! I have begun my 4:30 am trips to the gym again so I have started!

Its that time of year again. Time of much hope, lots of potential and promise, time to rise to the occasion and be a better you! Its that time of year again... I cant wait to see what it holds :)

Happy Hump Day!
